Farewell, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu (1919-2010)

Farewell and goodbye to the giant of Penang...

It was a sad day when people of Penang knew about the passing of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu on 24 November 2010... I attended the funeral wake at his house in Tanjung Bungah, in Dewan Sri Pinang as well at the funeral on 28 November 2010... it was a grand state funeral and you can see how much he was adored and respected by the people of all races...

Though the younger generations may not know him well enough but from what was written these few days regarding the legacy he has left behind, we truly appreciate what he has done for the state of Penang... from building Komtar, to building the Penang Bridge as well as the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park... what a remarkable job he has done to make Penang known to the world not just for its industrial but also for its tourism...

The state has made a wise decision in renaming the Jelutong and Bayan Lepas Expressway to Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway as a remembrance of the work he has done in developing the state of Penang from the north-east to the south-west of Penang... Just like what Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said, "The renaming of this highway is a show of appreciation, recognition and respect for the progress he brought to the state"...

I personally salute you, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu for everything you've done for Penang and the sacrifices you've made in making the state a better place for us all... You will always be remembered in the hearts of the people of Penang... Rest in peace...

RIP, Kavern Leng (1 Nov 1979 - 28 May 2010)

It was a very sad weekend for the family... I got to know the news of the passing of my cousin on 28 May 2010 at nearly 2pm... He had passed away at home at around 1.30pm after a very long fight of his cancer... I was one of the very few people to arrive at his house... watching him lying on the bed motionless really kills me inside... we waited for the police report to be done and then watched the caretaker carried him away on his arms like a baby...

Kavern was one of my close cousins from the Leng family... we used to play together when we were small and celebrated CNY together where we children would sit at a smaller table (doing and talking nonsense)  apart from the adult table...

Kavern had fought strongly and endlessly against his cancer and until his last breath... He was a warrior and a very tough guy... It just breaks my heart cause he was a very bright guy who is just 30 years old (1 year younger than me) and there is still so much future in front of him... I can always remember his birthday cause his birthday is 1 day after mine... we used to talk about the characters of us Scorpion people...

I would never have thought that this would happen to one of my cousins in my generation... but I know now that he is in a better place, up in the heaven, in the kingdom of GOD and he doesn't have to suffer anymore... You will be deeply missed...

REST IN PEACE, my dear cousin Kavern... we shall meet again one day...
